The “registry” is a provision of the Immigration and Nationality Act which allows a person who has previously entered the United States illegally to obtain legal permanent residence simply based on the fact that they have been residing in the country over a long period of time.

To benefit from this provision, the immigrant must prove continuous residence in the United States since before the stipulated “registry” date.
